This volume makes significant contributions to our appreciation of the unique harmony that has been an important part of Western culture since the Enlightenment. It also underscored some of the distinctive challenges that have arisen, drawing on a wide range of theoretical approaches including psychoanalysis, feminism, Marxism, postcolonialism and new materialisms. The contributors demonstrate how new media technologies have come to be seen as crucial agents of harmony-promoting globalization. The volume explores how new media technologies are used both to construct new forms of sociality and difference as well as to reinforce long-standing hierarchies between nations, races, sexes and classes; it concludes with suggestions for future research on this issue.
